Behind the Lesson

Behind the Lesson is a virtual live event series where team members interview freelance artists, musicians and writers about their creative process and lesson topic. The series features lessons related to social justice and has a complimentary social media campaign of images and quotes from team members. This campaign boosts brand awareness and engages users.

Flocabulary Open Mic

These sold-out concerts in Chicago and Philadelphia featured students rapping and performing alongside professional MCs, animated video projections and selected speakers. One attendee wrote a glowing article summarizing his experience at the showcase. The Flocabulary Open Mic boosted brand recognition while elevating student voice on political topics.

Black History Month Contest

In the Black History Month Rap Contest students compete to write the best rap lyrics about a Black American historical figure. The first year, we flew the winner, a 14-year-old student from Chicago, to Brooklyn to record his song about John Lewis. The campaign elevated the voices of students and educated audiences about Black history. It received 500% more submissions than we projected and was the most popular lesson on the website, making it a highly effective engagement strategy. See the winning video here.
